Dia de los Muertos in Santa Ana: Event Guide & Local Tips

Dia de los Muertos in Santa Ana isn't limited to one festival or one night. Each fall, the tradition is observed across the city through community altars, art, music, food and gatherings that honor loved ones who have passed. For visitors, that means there are several ways to experience the season. Families can start with hands-on activities at MainPlace or Bowers Museum, spend Día de los Muertos at Fairhaven Memorial Park or a neighborhood community gathering, and then experience several of Santa Ana's largest cultural celebrations in Downtown Santa Ana. If you only have one day, Saturday, November 7 is the date to circle. Noche de Altares, Viva La Vida and El Poder de la Cultura Morelense all take place in Downtown Santa Ana, giving you the chance to spend the afternoon and evening experiencing different Día de los Muertos traditions within the same part of the city. What Is Dia de los Muertos? Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a Mexican tradition shaped over centuries by Indigenous traditions and Spanish Catholic customs. Observances are commonly associated with November 1 and 2 and center on remembering and honoring loved ones who have died. Ofrendas, or altars, may include photographs, candles, marigolds, favorite foods and personal objects connected to those being remembered. Traditions vary by family, community and region, but remembrance remains at the heart of the observance. In Santa Ana, you'll see that tradition expressed in different ways, from personal and community altars to museum programs, neighborhood gatherings and large Downtown festivals.     Photo Credit: @FrankieFierro   Santa Ana Día de los Muertos Events 2026 MainPlace Día de Muertos Festival Saturday, October 24 | 2–5 PM Día de los Muertos: Magic of the Altars Friday, October 30 | 4–6 PM Bowers Museum Mexican Day of the Dead Sunday, November 1 | 11 AM–3 PM Heritage Museum of Orange County Community Día de los Muertos Sunday, November 1 | 5–9 PM Fairhaven Día de los Muertos Festival Monday, November 2 | 10 AM–2 PM Centro Cultural de Mexico's 24th Annual Noche de Altares Saturday, November 7 | 12 PM–9 PM El Poder de la Cultura Morelense Saturday, November 7  | 12 PM–10 PM Viva La Vida Día de Muertos Festival Saturday, November 7 | 3–10 PM   MainPlace Dia de Muertos Festival Saturday, October 24, 2026 | 2–5 PM MainPlace, 2800 N.
