El Grito de Ceremonia
The history of Fiesta Patrias begins with the El Grito de Cereomina, commemorating Father Hidalgo’s call to arms in Dolores, Guanajuato, in 1910. He rang the church bell to call the townspeople to fight for independence. Today, this historic moment is relived in every city across Mexico on the night of September 15. The Mexican president appears in the capital with the flag on a balcony at 11:00 p.m. The government or municipal president will appear in provinces, and Mexican ambassadors in foreign countries may do the same. They yell out a few exclamatory phrases remembering those who fought for independence and end with the words: ¡Viva México! (“Long Live Mexico!”) and the ringing of a bell.
Celebrate in Santa Ana and share in the vibrant traditions and joyous spirit of Fiestas Patrias—an unforgettable weekend of culture, community, and fun awaits!
