Q: Where were you born?

A: (Pedro): I was born and raised in Mexico, where I developed a deep appreciation for food, community, and the way sharing a meal brings people together.

A:(Duane): I grew up in the Midwest, where hospitality is a way of life. It’s where I first learned the value of welcoming people with great food and warm service.

 

Q: What is something most people don’t know about you?

A: (Duane): Most people don’t realize that before opening Benchmark, I spent decades in executive food and beverage roles. Hospitality has shaped nearly every chapter of my life, from major resorts to running a full-service catering company.

 

Q: What inspired you to open your business?

A: (Pedro & Duane): Benchmark was born from our shared belief in the power of hospitality. For both of us, Benchmark represents the culmination of years of experience, passion, and a desire to build a restaurant where community comes first

 

Q: What is unique about your business?

A: Benchmark stands out because it blends elevated comfort food with a sincere, people-first approach to hospitality. Our menu is seasonal, which means we’re constantly rotating dishes to showcase fresh, locally inspired ingredients and new ideas from the kitchen. Quality and creativity drive everything we serve, but just as important is the environment—we want guests to feel welcomed, cared for, and part of something special every time they walk through our doors.

 

Q: What recommendation do you have for visitors?

A: (Pedro) If you’re visiting Santa Ana, I recommend you visit the Bowers Museum and then go downtown to experience the nightlife.

A: (Duane) I recommend you visit the zoo. I don’t think people know that we have an incredible zoo here, and then shooting over to Benchmark for a great dinner.
