Explore Diverse Flavors of the Iconic Mexican Cocktail with Curated Local Creations.

In celebration of National Michelada Day, Travel Santa Ana launched the Santa Ana Michelada Guide.  The comprehensive guide showcases the rich heritage and diverse interpretations of the iconic Mexican cocktail within Santa Ana’s vibrant community.

Originating in the 1960s, the michelada can be credited to Michel Ésper, who frequented Club Deportivo Potosino in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, and requested his lager-style beer be served with lime, ice, and in a salt-rimmed cup called a "chabela” with a straw. Fellow club members began requesting “Michel’s lemonade,” eventually, the beverage became known as the “michelada.”

Over the years, the michelada evolved with the addition of sauces, chiles, and spices. Today, Santa Ana’s restaurants and bars offer a diverse array of michelada experiences, from traditional recipes with homemade sauces to innovative mocktails featuring Topo Chico and fresh fruit juices.

“Our Santa Ana Michelada Guide invites you to discover this refreshing beverage and savor the exceptional micheladas crafted by our local establishments,” said Wendy-Haase Roberts, President & CEO, Travel Santa Ana.  “We’ve curated the most delicious and unique micheladas in the city; with every sip, you’ll experience our community’s creativity.”
